Sleep apnea is characterized by repeated pauses in breathing during sleep. This sleep disorder affects a significant portion of middle-aged adults and should not be ignored, since it can have serious consequences, such as myocardial infarction (heart attack)..
If you snore, have non-restorative sleep and feel drowsy during the day, it is important to consult your doctor to determine whether you have sleep apnea.
Diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis and development of a sleep apnea treatment plan should be done by a physician.
However, an orthodontist may play a role in the treatment of this condition. We make and fit oral appliances to treat sleep apnea when they are recommended by a doctor.
We also work with Soins du sommeil Biron to screen for sleep apnea in adult and pediatric patients. For more information on sleep apnea, please visit the Soins du sommeil Biron website.
During this pandemic period, we invite you to visit our Facebook page to stay informed of the guidelines updated daily by Santé Québec, the Ordre des dentistes du Québec and the Association des orthodontistes du Québec.
According to the most recent recommendations of the authorities in place, it is MANDATORY to reschedule all appointments in order to eliminate any spread of the coronavirus. Rest assured that a member of our team will contact you by phone or email as soon as it is possible to receive you in order to arrange the date of your next visit to the clinic.
We thank you for your understanding at this critical time when we must all work together to prevent the spread of this virus and protect the most vulnerable people.
